Romans 5.1

Bless you readers.

This is part one of a verse by verse on Romans 5.

“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

For years now, whenever group thank cards, birthday or anniversary cards are passed around I sign simply this, “Romans 5.1”. It is a very fulfilling verse.

You only need be a believer for about a week to find out that sin is the enemy, so to speak. And who is it that commits the sin in our lives? It is me, myself and I! Notice, I can’t commit sin for others. Ron always says, “plank speck, plank speck”. Sinwise I am responsible for me.

Even a basic attempt to be sinless is futile. This is why, “Therefore being justified by faith” is so reassuring. It tells us that we are not justified by what we do -apart from our faith in Christ. We are truly and simply “justified by faith”. This is an awesome point. The more I wrestle with sin in my life for Christs sake the more I see how amazing this truth is.

Wrestling with sin should be done simply for our witness (you only need be a Christian for about two weeks before you notice others watch us pretty closely) and second, for Christs sake who paid so dearly for all our sin. I have often considered that every time I sin I am adding to the pain He suffered for me.

And “peace with God”? How is this not the greatest truth in the whole Bible? Who does not want peace with God?

But whom is that peace through?
