3. God is Love

Bless you reader.

“And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.”
1 Corinthians 13:3

Basically, “Take everything I own and set me on fire.” Gee. Paul’s being extreme again. Not in the least. But, it “profits me nothing”? “Feed the poor”? How can feeding the poor be bad? It can’t be bad. The question is whether there is love in it. It is not in the feeding. It is in the sacrifice toward the feeding that God is glorified. Love in the donations people can’t afford (from which most donations come). Love in the precious time people don’t have to give. Love in hearing their troubles and being a steady support for them. This is “the Love of God shed abroad in our hearts..” Rom. 5:5. What is in your heart? Are your sacrifices private? Or are they public for others to see, or even before your own eyes for your feelings? This guy gave everything he had and then gave up his own life. But where are the people in this mans life? Notice he gave his goods “to feed the poor”. He did not feed them, nor apparently care to for apparently he would of been very busy person as there have always been an abundance of hungry poor people. No. This mans sacrifice was only to appease God. Something only Christ can do. He was radically selfish. And who isn’t in some way or another? I know that I am certainly more kind and generous when people are watching. Pitiful, but true.

This is a verse from when the LORD sent Samuel to pick a new king for israel, David. What a king David was. He was a warrior, a musician, a dancer (although it is only written that he danced ‘disrobed’ 2 Sam. 6:20), and the writer of most of the Psalms. You could say I like David. Anyway..

“But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.”  1 Samuel 16:7

The LORD looks on the heart.
Is your heart looking to the LORD?

How typical! God is Love! Okay, I see what you are doing here……

All kidding aside…good wisdom….you remind me of Saint Peter. He just loved the Lord, he really did and yet, and yet again he was so human.

Good words, simple wisdom and so applicable to our contemporary situations..

    Thank you my brother

I told you the wrong thing—the Greek word for hypocrisy is hypokrisis meaning “to play act.”

The Latin word for wax that was used to hide the imperfections and cracks in marble was cera. Thus sans cera would be “without wax.” When the sun melted the wax, the deception would be obvious. Signs were posted showing their workmanship to be sans cera or sincere.

But it turns out that this is a folk etymology perpetuated by a Dan Brown book. Ha! The real root of the word Sincere is sincerus meaning “clean” or “pure.” Well it makes a good story for sincerity, any way.

Keep this blog up! It is perfect!
You used the verse from Samuel
“Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.”
My mom used the same verse to tell me to make a Godly decision with my now ex husband. But I couldn’t wait and and hear good advice. That was 14 years ago and I remember perfectly how my heart burned when I heard the verse. I knew God was talking to me and that I should listen, but I didn’t. Like you said I just didn’t care.
I pray your work will save somebody else.

I absolutely love 1 Samuel 16:7! It removes all pressure to conform to this world and to try and please people who will never entirely be pleased! It frees me to look only unto God for acceptance and love. People often look at others and size them up, telling the “good” from the “bad”. This is often based on how you dress, how well you articulate, how much your bank balance is, the car you drive, the neighborhood you live in, the color of your skin, which part of the world you’re from… the list is endless! But in all this, there is only ONE thing God looks at… the condition of our hearts. And no matter what ‘good’ deeds we do, if our HEART is not lifted towards God… it is futile…
