nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.”

“But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” Matt. 5.44
I have long thought that we are to pray for our enemies yet after searching the entire Bible I see that we are only called to Love our enemies. That definitely kicks things up a notch. I mean, I thought praying for them was hard enough, but Loving them! (There is an interesting distinction between ‘enemies’ and ‘persecute’ if you click on those words above.)
It is perfectly clear and evidenced by God’s word that He is calling us to Godly behavior.
“For God so loved the world..” (-not just the nice people who go to church and sing songs, but the whole world. Would God call us to Love our enemies if He in fact didn’t?)

THIS IS MY FAVORITE BLOG.

I like what the verses after Matt 5:44 say –
46 If you love only those who love you, what reward is there for that? Even corrupt tax collectors do that much. 47 If you are kind only to your friends, how are you different from anyone else? Even pagans do that.
We as (imperfect) Christians are called to be different from the world and one difference can be the way we act and react to people and situations around us. Our behavior as Christians is being watched by the world, they’re looking and they do notice what differentiates us. I want my behavior to point someone to Christ, not discourage them from seeking Him. Dare to be different.

Michelle,
I appreciate your comment. You are right the world watches us soooo closely. It is actually kinda comical. “What, you said/did/think THAT? But your a Christian!!”
Your point is probably the biggest one that makes me watch my behavior in front of others. Gosh, I sure wish it would help more! lol

About watching your behavior in front of others: Opens up a whole new subject and we could probably have a good conversation about that! I have in the past (and probably still) worry too much about what others think. (like when I pray aloud in a group, referring to my other comment)
As a Christian woman who does not hide or downplay that, I am keenly aware that others are always watching me. Yet so many people, both other Christians and non-Christians, have huge misconceptions about what it really means to be a Christian.
A pastor-friend recently reminded me of this verse, also saying that he sometimes needs to read it every day: Galatians 1:10 Paul is saying: “Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.”
It can be difficult to strike a balance between “not trying to win the approval of people” and curbing your behavior in such a way that you are not a stumbling block to those still seeking Christ.
